The Falcons' victory in 1 minute, 33.52 seconds at the state finals in Clovis West High School on Saturday not only broke their own record but also marked a historic moment as the first local relay champion in the 11-year history of the state meet. The team's success is a testament to the leadership and talent of seniors Aya Ferguson, Katerina Weitfeldt, and Anita Qian, alongside the contributions of sophomore Scarlett Zhang. This triumph builds upon their previous achievements, as they have set the record six times over the last three years. The boys team also shone, setting a new record in the 400 free relay, with a time of 3:02.93, just two seconds off the previous mark. The team's success is a result of the hard work and dedication of juniors Aidan Copeland and Hamilton Gates, alongside sophomores Kai Painter and Charlie Hall. The girls' 400 free relay, however, saw them place sixth, with a time of 3:26.47, coming off a record-breaking performance at the section meet. Grossmont sophomore Aramis Willet and Mt. Carmel senior Catherine Rowe also made their mark, with Willet finishing ninth and Rowe placing third in the girls 100 backstroke. The team's success extends beyond individual achievements, as they have ended Santa Margarita's six-year reign in the girls team title, finishing in seventh place. The boys team, led by Santa Margarita, took the crown.
